Insurance Process
If you are using your insurance, it is helpful to understand the process prior to starting therapy services.
Insurances all cover different portions of counseling services depending on the insurance provider, network, plan, etc.
To determine coverage, your first call is to your insurance company.
Things to confirm:
—Sara Schramer at Soothing Connections Counseling is in network.
—Your copay amount that you will be paying at each session.
—If you have a deductible, what amount is it and what amount is remaining.
Soothing Connections Counseling will run an insurance report to assist you in clarifying your insurance coverage, however these reports are not guaranteed and the best contact for you is your insurance company directly.
Ultimately, you are responsible for whatever your insurance company does not cover.

Why Choose Private Pay?
Choosing to pay privately (Self-Pay) therapy gives you more privacy, flexibility, and control over your mental health care.
Here are a few reasons some clients in the St. Charles and Geneva area prefer this route:
No formal diagnosis required
Greater privacy—your mental health records stay between you and your therapist (no involvement with insurance company)
Freedom to choose the frequency and duration of your therapy without any insurance constraints
No session limits imposed by insurance companies
Determining the length of your sessions between you and your therapist, without any insurance limitations
Sliding Scale & Accessibility
I understand that therapy is an investment in your emotional and relational health. We also know that finances can be a barrier. A limited number of sliding scale spots may be available based on need and availability.
If you're concerned about affordability, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll do our best to explore options with you or provide referrals to trusted providers in the St. Charles or Geneva area who may fit your budget.
Cancellation Policy
To honor the time we set aside specifically for you, I require a full 24 hours notice for any cancelations or rescheduling.
Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the late cancelation fee $130.
I understand—things come up, and sometimes you just can't make it. The reason I require at least 24 hours' notice when canceling or rescheduling a session is because your session time is reserved just for you, and with short notice, I’m not able to fill that spot.
I know that sometimes illness or emergencies happen, and it’s not always in your control. I hold compassion for those moments, while also honoring the need for sustainable boundaries that support the ongoing care of all my clients—and my ability to keep doing this work.
